October 9, 2023 - All About Music
Hi! Today I will talk about my favorite music.
My favorite English song is "Video Killed the Radio Star."
This song is very famous. It was released in 1979 by a British music group called The Buggles.
I first heard this song as a cover on the NHK show "Tensai TV-kun."
The song's theme is about the transition from radio to television.
When television arrived, radio became less popular.
The singers lost their chance to become famous because of television. The song reminisces about the good old times of radio. I love this song because the music sounds futuristic, yet it talks about old media.
By the way, the first video ever played on MTV was this song's music video.
Although the music video is over 40 years old, it still stands the test of time.
This song talks about the changing times in media.
However, now, 40 years later, video is no longer the main media.
There's a humorous new parody song called "Internet Killed the Video Star" that discusses the media changes we are experiencing now.
I love this song! Actually the Buggles covered the song, its hard to believe! It was the first song on MTV! After about 10 years, MTV stopped playing music all day and played tv dramas and animation. I did not like that. I wanted music!!
返信削除Actually it's a funny story because when I tried to be a famous rock star at age 17, I wrote a song called "The Real World Killed the Video Star" About the TV show the Real World which was on MTV all the time but had no music in it! But i never became famous... oh well..
