Hello! Today, I want to introduce you to my favorite comic.
Have you heard of Kazuo Umezu?
What do you think of this man? If you don't know him, he might seem like just some funny guy.
But he's a big deal in Japan's horror manga world. Umezu started drawing back in the 1950s and is a big-shot horror manga . He's also made cool funny comics like Makoto-Chan (1976). His style and spooky drawings are pretty popular here. A lot of his stuff has been made into movies, shows, and toys. and he's like the third Japanese person to win a big comic prize at the Angoulême Festival in France.
Now, let me show you one of his famous works. It's called "The Drifting Classroom."
This comic's about a bunch of kids and teachers who get zapped into a crazy future world.
The main kid, Sho, fights with his mom one day and leaves home. And then, he never sees her again because of some big explosion that sends his school to this future place. There, they've gotta deal with all sorts of scary stuff – like running out of food and water, no safe place to stay, and some real creepy monsters and sicknesses. Things get really bad, and the kids have to step up big time.
The story is about kids trying to survive and return home. When I read it, I felt super sad. Every new page made me feel worse. Many kids, even as young as 7 or 8, die. But watching them keep going and find hope is inspiring.
Some people might not like this comic, but I love it.
Looks very interesting but I have not heard of it.
